This is what happened after a woman fell off California’s highest bridge trying to take a selfie

Okay, this is a seriously frightening story, so consider yourself warned. A woman and her friends were on Foresthill Bridge in California, the tallest in the entire state, and when she tried to take a selfie, she fell off the bridge — and down 60 feet onto a trail below. The bridge sits at 730 feet tall, so it’s a good thing she didn’t fall the whole way down. Don’t worry, she survived, but she’s very lucky to be alive.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident on Facebook, saying the woman and her friends were walking on the girders that were actually underneath  the bridge, an area that’s off limits to everyone. They also said you can be “cited and or arrested if found in any closed location” like this one.

It’s reported that the woman, who remains unnamed, stepped on the bolts that hold the beams together and essentially tripped. When she landed she was immediately knocked out, so she lay unconscious down there by herself. She broke some bones and has a serious wound on her arm, but she was taken to the hospital as soon as the authorities reached her, so she will pull through and make a full recovery. Phew!

Foresthill Bridge has apparently become a popular place for people to take selfies, so the Sheriff’s Office is trying to raise awareness about this incident. The last thing they want is another accident in which someone’s fate is much worse than this woman’s.
