Hanover eagle cam will be back on after viewers nationwide raised $10k to restore power

In just a week, viewers across the country raised over $10,000 to restore electricity to a popular webcam at Codorus State Park.

The Hanover Eagle Camera, which has drawn millions of viewers, will soon be back online thanks to the funds raised by viewers, after HDonTap had lost access to electricity for the site.

"It takes a village and we're so thankful for this community of dedicated eagle enthusiasts, watchers, conservationists, educators and everyone in between," wrote a post by HDonTap about the efforts.

The livestream, run through a Pennsylvania Game Commission partnership with Comcast Business and HDOnTap, captures the activity of the nest near Codorus State Park. Viewers have been following "Liberty" and "Freedom," the names given to the female and male bald eagles, since 2015.

The request for donations came after HDonTap released a post stating that the previous power source for the site was no longer available after nine years of use.

Now, crews will be working to trench new power lines underground to the wooded site where the nest is perched, restoring power that was lost earlier this year.

A re-launch date has not yet been decided, but will be coming soon, according to the website.

"WOW!!!!! We cannot express how grateful we are to you loyal viewers, your dedication to the Hanover eagle cam is astounding. We are completely blown away it only took one week to raise the funds needed to restore power," wrote staff from HDonTap in a message.
