The Handmaid’s Tale star Elisabeth Moss’s new spy series has released an exciting first trailer.

FX thriller The Veil is a limited series for streaming service Hulu, from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.

The project, which was first announced in 2022, is set to premiere on April 30. Now, the show has given audiences a taste of what to expect in a new trailer.

The synopsis describes The Veil as a "spy thriller that explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women who play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London.

"One woman has a secret, the other a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost. In the shadows, the CIA and French DGSE must work together to avert potential disaster."

The trailer reveals that Moss plays MI6 Agent Imogen Salter, who is familiar with high-pressure situations but is also known to be "erratic and unpredictable".

"I’ve played so many people in my life," she says in the trailer, "I don’t know where I belong anymore."

Salter is tasked with travelling to a camp near the Turkish border to meet a woman called Adilah (Yumna Marwan) who is described to be "extremely intelligent and untrustworthy". She is also said to have information about a plan to kill half a million people.

The new clip teases plenty of high-octane action sequences, chase scenes and tense showdowns, as the complicated relationship between the two women unfolds on screen.

At the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour last month, Moss told members (via The Irish News) about the difficulties of playing this new role, including speaking with an English accent.

She said: "It was much more challenging than I’ve ever experienced given the different skills and different things I had to do with the dialect, the stunts, fight training, and speaking a couple of different languages here and there, and then travelling around the world.

"It definitely felt like, if possible, I’ve found something even more challenging than The Handmaid’s Tale."

The Veil will premiere on Hulu on April 30.
