PETOSKEY — The purchase of 32 new Glock 9mm pistols for the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office was approved by the Emmet County Board of Commissioners during their meeting on Monday.

County administrator David Boyer said the proposal was a part of this year’s budget process.

“The sheriff’s office came to us with a proposal to replace their current .45 handguns that are at the end of their useful life and then wanted to replace those with 9mm Glocks,” he said.

The purchase includes Holosun SCS green-dot holographic optics and Blackhawk kydex holsters for the pistols.

The bids from prospective vendors also included the buyback of the department’s current stock of .45 Glock pistols.

“The guns that we have will be traded in, so we get a credit for that,” Boyer said. “The ammunition that we have for the .45s will also be traded in.”

Three companies bid on the project, and the board approved the low bid from Kiesler Police Supply in the amount of $19,985.
