Han Hui Hui, the blogger who is facing one charge of public nuisance for her part in a demonstration at Hong Lim Park, questioned in court if there were lapses in police investigations.

Han was back in the State Courts on Wednesday (24 Feb) along with two other co-accused, Koh Yew Beng and Low Wai Choo, who are also facing one charge each for committing the offence on 27 September 2014.

The trio, who were representing themselves, took turns to cross examine prosecution witness Inspector Samantha Wong. They kept asking Wong why they were being charged in court.

Eight others who were at Hong Lim Park during the incident were earlier charged in court and let off with conditional warnings.

Two others, fellow blogger Roy Ngerng, and Chua Siew Leng, pleaded guilty in October last year and were fined $1,900 and $300, respectively.

Han, Koh and Low are said to have committed the offence by shouting loudly, chanting slogans, blowing whistles and beating drums at the park. They organised the demonstration to speak up against the Central Provident Fund (CPF) policy.

“Is blowing a whistle a crime? How is blowing a whistle a crime or illegal?” Han asked Wong during her cross-examination.

Han went on to question why the police did not interview Minister of State for Manpower Teo Ser Luck, as he was also present at Hong Lim Park for a YMCA event, which took place at the same time as the demonstration.

Koh questioned why the trio are the only ones facing charges when there were other people during the demonstration.

His argument was echoed by Low who insisted that she did not commit an offence, and was merely at the demonstration to speak up for her right as a Singaporean.

The trio will be back in court on Thursday. The three day trial will end on Friday.
