HAMPTON — Approximately 200 Hampton School District students are participating in ski club on Fridays throughout January and February.

The ski club has been a tradition at Marston School and Hampton Academy for many years. Staff members and parents play a large role in the organization and implementation of the program, including working with Pats Peak and McIntyre Ski Mountain to align dates, schedule bus transportation, and coordinating lessons for students.

The ski club is open to students in grades 3-8. Students take lessons through the ski mountain and can learn to ski or snowboard. The lessons vary in level, including beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

At Marston, students have three options depending on their ski ability and level. Students can choose from engaging in two full hours of lessons. Or, they can have one hour of Free Ski then one hour of lessons, or vice versa. Since it is a learn to ski/snowboard club, all students in grades 3-5 are required to take lessons.

"The ski club lets our students experience and learn to love the sport of skiing and snowboarding," said Hampton Academy Principal Ken Hawkins. "This experience allows them to learn a sport they can do for the rest of their lives. It is a great experience all around, and we look forward to continuing Ski Club for many years to come."
