Hampton Roads schools recognized by Virginia Board of Education for academic success

PORSTMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Several schools in Hampton Roads were among those recognized statewide for their academic achievement by The Virginia Board of Education.

The Exemplar School Recognition Program recognized 37 schools by giving them the Board of Education Highest Achievement Award, including six in Hampton Roads. Five of which were in Virginia Beach and one in York County.

Those recognized in Virginia Beach were: Green Run Collegiate, Kingston Elementary, North Landing Elementary, Old Donation School and Rosemont Forest Elementary. York County’s Seaford Elementary was also recognized.

The awards are based on performance and practices during the 2022-2023 and prior school years, a release states.

Three schools in Hampton Roads also received an award for improvement. Green Run High and Tallwood High in Virginia Beach as well as York River Academy in York County.

“On behalf of the Virginia Board of Education, I am thrilled to celebrate and honor the 64 schools who are being recognized for their accomplishments,” said Board of Education President Grace Turner Creasey. “Recognition in this program is one of the highest achievements a school can receive in the Commonwealth. Congratulations to the staff, students, and communities who support these remarkable schools for their success.”
