LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Politics just got interesting for fans of the video game Halo as Republican Marty O’Donnell has decided to run for Congress.

After posting an announcement as @MartyTheElder on the social platform X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, March 3, O’Donnell is generating interest. And when Elon Musk reposted the message on Tuesday saying, “I hope more people like Marty run for office,” attention picked up even more.

O’Donnell, now 68 and living in the Lone Mountain area in the northwest Las Vegas valley, is known for his work as a composer and audio director for games including Riven, Myth II, Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, Destiny and Golem.

He joins Republicans Elizabeth Helgelien, Drew Johnson and Steven M. Schiffman in their bids to defeat incumbent Democrat Susie Lee in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District. A primary election in June will narrow the field of Republicans to one candidate who will face Lee in November’s general election.

“I never wanted to be a politician and I still don’t,” O’Donnell’s social post begins. “I’ve had two successful careers and have started a few small businesses. I’ve also worked for some big corporations. I was ready to retire and spend more time with my family – which I’ve done for the past 3 years. I think they’re ready for me to find something else to do.” See the entire post here: https://twitter.com/MartyTheElder/status/1764445788556665041

Border security, strong family values and government spending are among his topics. “Our government spends money on the wrong things and spends way too much.”
