Halle Berry sparked controversy with her natural hair at the Oscars

Halle Berry was the latest celebrity to opt for a more natural beauty look. But rather than going without make-up, the actress took to the 89th Academy Awards red carpet in a beautiful Atelier Versace gown and voluminous loose curls.

The hair do quickly attracted comment on social media, with some asking whether it was a wig. “I have always marched to the beat to my own drum, and I think this red-carpet look encapsulates that,” Berry told Vogue.com of her look. “The dress is glamorous with a sense of romance that made me feel feminine and fresh. With this look, I celebrate my natural hair by allowing it to be wild and free.”

While embracing your natural hair texture has been a key trend and in the past year there have been a plethora of product ranges tailored to coarse and afro hair, the actress received mixed reviews across social media.

There were some who applauded her for going au naturale, but the majority slammed the actress and suggested she fired her hairstylist Castillo Bataille. 

It's not the first time that Berry has made headlines with her choice of hairstyle, in fact the term 'Halle Berry pixie' is still searched on Google every 0.69 seconds globally. And, if the actress was feeling remotely unsure of her choice of hairstyle for the red carpet, she didn't let on via her Instagram just hours later.
