‘Hairspray’ canceled at Denver’s Buell Theatre due to sprinkler issue

DENVER (KDVR) — Tuesday and Wednesday’s performances of “Hairspray” at Buell Theatre have been canceled.

The production was to be one of a handful of performances from the touring Broadway cast.

List: Broadway shows to hit the stage in Denver for 2024-25 season

The Denver Center for Performing Arts told FOX31 that the show Tuesday was canceled “due to an errant activation of the sprinkler system above the Buell Stage.”

Wednesday, DCPA announced a second show cancellation.

“While we were optimistic that performances could resume today, upon further review we have determined that we need one more day to complete our load-in and thoroughly test our systems to ensure that we can provide the quality production our community is accustomed to,” a DCPA spokesperson told FOX31 in an email.

Patrons with tickets for either of the canceled shows should hear from the box office with options for a refund or to see a different performance, DCPA said.

Other “Hairspray” performances are still scheduled to happen Mar. 7-10 at Buell Theatre.
