Hail, damaging winds possible with Friday night storms rolling through Austin

Large hail, damaging winds, dangerous lightening and bursts of heavy rainfall are expected with thunderstorms rolling through Austin on Friday evening. The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 9 p.m. for Austin and other parts of Central Texas.

Residents in the Hill Country and just north of Austin reported getting pea- to golf ball-size hail Friday evening, according to media reports.

A cold front is moving through the area late Friday afternoon and evening, bringing scattered thunderstorms with possible hail and damaging winds, the weather service said.

“Large hail and damaging straight line winds are the primary threat, but a tornado cannot be completely ruled out,” Friday’s weather service report stated.
