Hagerstown college students upbeat about job prospects in region

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (DC News Now) — The campus of Hagerstown Community College was abuzz midweek for the annual career fair.

Many employers from around the state filled the campus field house as students were upbeat about their prospects on the job market.

“As a software engineer I hope to specialize in artificial intelligence [and] machine learning,” said Akim Fessuh. “That’s definitely my dream job.”

Morgan Jerrel is hopeful about finding a job.

“If I don’t do physical therapy, my field,” Jerrell said. “There are so many things you can do with that training, that background. So I’m bound to find something.”

Laura Scafide with the the college career expo says many contacts today could lead to a paid apprenticeship.

“That’s one of the success stories you get from today’s event,” Scafide said.

The career fair also included job readiness workshops and networking opportunities.
