Hagadorn Road in East Lansing to see traffic impacts today as tree removed

EAST LANSING — A heavily traveled north-south corridor between Grand River Avenue and Business Interstate 69 will be impacted today by lane closures, the city said.

Hagadorn Road will shift traffic from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today while city’s forestry contractor Top Notch Tree Care takes down a large oak tree near the intersection with Roseland Avenue.

The affected area will include the northbound lanes of traffic on Hagadorn Road from Roseland Avenue to Cahill Drive.

“The decision to remove any tree is not taken lightly, and we understand the history and connection the neighboring homes and neighborhoods have to this particular tree,” Environmental Sustainability and Resiliency Manager Cliff Walls said. “However, the tree has recently exhibited a significant and growing lean over the roadway, indicating instability. This has caused it to be struck by passing vehicles, causing further structural damage to the trunk. Following consultation with internal and external arborists, it was determined that its safe removal is necessary to protect the public.
