Gym roof collapses at Albuquerque charter school; no injuries reported
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The roof of a new gym at an Albuquerque charter school collapsed on Sunday, according to a post made by Explore Academy on Facebook.
The gym at the Explore Academy Gulton Ct NE campus was still under construction and was not being used by utilized by students or staff yet, Principal Jake Kolander told KRQE News 13. According to the social media post, school officials said that the fire alarm went off and officials discovered the damage when they met with construction crews on site.

The damage was isolated to the new gym and did not appear to damage any of the surrounding new classrooms or the current building, the post read. Kolander said the school did not have an official opening date for the gym as they did not receive the final inspections nor the certificate of occupancy.
Students in grades 6-12 transitioned to aysynchronous learning on Monday will continue to in that learning mode pending an inspection of the entire building by an engineer, school officials said. As of now, students and staff are expected to return to the school next week. The cause of the collapse is under investigation.
According to a social media post by the school on March 26, AIC General Contractor, Inc. was working on the gym.
