Guzan moving from Middlesbrough to Atlanta this summer
Middlesbrough says American goalkeeper Brad Guzan will leave after this season and has agreed to sign with Major League Soccer's new Atlanta team.
The Premier League club announced the move on its website Wednesday, saying he agreed to a multiyear contract with Atlanta.
The 32-year-old, who has 53 international appearances, played for Chivas USA from 2005-08, then moved to Aston Villa, where he remained through last season except for a 2011 loan to Hull. He has made just two appearances for Middlesbrough since August, serving as a backup to Victor Valdes.
Guzan was a backup to Tim Howard at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, then became the U.S. starter in 2015 when Howard took a sabbatical.
Guzan was the first-choice U.S. goalkeeper at last year's Copa America, but Guzan's lack of playing time led to Howard regaining the starting job last fall. Howard hurt a leg against Mexico in October, an injury that required surgery, and Guzan is likely to start March qualifiers against Honduras and Panama.
