The Guy From 'The Killing' is Your New RoboCop

Perhaps what the citizens of Detroit need most right now are fewer bombastic GOP candidates in Cadillacs and sweater vests, and a few more strong-and-silent police cyborgs packing serious heat. And they may be in luck: Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline Hollywood are all reporting that MGM has made an offer to Swedish-American actor Joel Kinnaman, best known to U.S. audiences as brooding, heroin-chic Detective Stephen Holder on AMC's The Killing, to play the lead in their reboot of the Paul Verhoeven-directed sci-fi classic from 1987. Should he sign on, Kinnaman will be tasked with filling the stainless-steel boots of original RoboCop Paul Weller, who Verhoeven chose over Arnold Schwarzenegger for several reasons: One, because he was lanky enough to fit into the cumbersome costume, and two, because "he could adequately convey pathos with his lower face," according to the DVD commentary. Well, Kinnaman has got the lanky part down, but is his jaw up to the acting task at hand?
