Guns and suspected meth seized, two arrested during traffic stop

PIATT TOWNSHIP, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Police say they arrested two people after seizing suspected methamphetamine and multiple firearms including an AR-15, handgun, and shotgun.

Around 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning, the Lycoming Regional Police say they pulled over 21-year-old Raymond Poust Jr., from Williamsport, on SR 220 South in Piatt Township.

Police said Poust Jr. and his passenger, 32-year-old Jessica Smith from Muncy, gave officers consent to search the car after noticing drug paraphernalia in plain view.

Investigators searched the car and say they seized the following items:

  • A loaded AR-15 rifle with a high-power scope concealed in the back row

  • A loaded 9mm handgun concealed in the center console

  • A .410 shotgun in the trunk

  • Baggies containing suspected methamphetamine

  • A container with a quantity of “suspected methamphetamine”

  • Drug paraphernalia

Authorities say neither Smith nor Poust Jr. possess a license to carry concealed firearms.

Jessica Smith also had an active bench warrant out of Northumberland County according to police.

Smith and Poust Jr. were taken into custody and charged with felony firearms charges, possession of controlled substances, and drug paraphernalia charges.

Both were taken to the Lycoming County Prison on $50,000 bail.
