Guns found at Salt Lake City, Provo airports

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Transportation Security Administration officials say handguns were discovered 10 minutes apart at two Utah airports.

The first firearm was found in the carry-on bag of a passenger at Provo Municipal Airport on Wednesday morning. The .38 caliber revolver was loaded with five rounds of ammunition. The passenger had an additional six rounds wrapped in plastic in his pocket. Charges against the passenger are pending.

The second gun was discovered 10 minutes later at Salt Lake City International Airport. A male passenger headed to Las Vegas had a loaded Browning .22 caliber firearm and a magazine loaded with 10 rounds.

The second passenger was arrested and charged with carrying a firearm in a secure checkpoint. It is the 12th gun detected at a security checkpoint in Salt Lake City this year.
