‘There’s a gun in my purse’: Marijuana leads to CCSD parent arrest, police say

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A tense situation for Clark County School District Police after they said they found a parent smoking marijuana at a school parking lot with a loaded gun in tow.

According to Clark County School District data, CCSDPD confiscated a total of 52 guns from August of 2023 to May of 2024. Eighteen were from juveniles and 20 from adults.

In some cases, it’s parents bringing them on school property creating a danger for police, students, and staff.

Officer-worn body camera footage from CCSDPD captured an incident on Jan. 20 with Jasmine Holland.

A police officer alleges he found her smoking marijuana inside her car in the parking lot of Valley High School.

“The goal is to not have you arrested, that’s the goal. We definitely don’t want that,” a CCSD officer said.

Holland reportedly told the officer she was there for her daughter’s wrestling tournament, police said.

“I’m trying to work with you, so we don’t arrest you,” the officer said again.

After a lecture from police, it seems she was in the clear and on her way back to watching her child wrestle.

“We’re not trying to blow this up to what it is. You’re probably going to catch a citation for the possession of marijuana, and we’re going to tow the vehicle. We’ll be done with it. That’s the goal,” the officer said.

But then seconds later a shift.

“Do you have anything else in there, guns, weapons, bazookas, grenade launchers?” police asked Holland.

“There’s a gun in my purse,” Holland responded.

Another officer responded, “There’s a what?”

“There’s a gun in my purse,” she said. “There’s always a gun in my purse if I’m being honest.”

According to an arrest report, Holland had a Taurus-38 caliber gun with six rounds in the magazine.

Police also document finding several marijuana products in her vehicle, including vape cartridges, flowers, and edibles.

“There’s nothing in the chamber,” Holland said.

She then told an officer, “I fully understand. I’m not doing anything. I’m not arguing, you know what I mean? Hiding anything.”

Holland ended up pleading no contest in March and was sentenced to a 60-day suspended jail sentence.

Of the guns the CCSDPD has seized, 26 have been on-campus and 26 off-campus.

CCSD police urge parents to secure their firearms, so they don’t make their way onto campus.
