Gulf Shores PD: Increased patrols result in over 200 warnings, tickets, arrests

GULF SHORES, Ala. (WKRG) — The Gulf Shores Police Department said their increased patrols over the weekend helped to target people breaking local laws and ordinances.

Per previous reporting, Gulf Shores PD issued a notice about an increase of police at the beachfront to focus on impaired drivers, drug and alcohol violations, and traffic enforcement. In a Facebook post, the department said, “There were a few people that did not get the message and, if they did, failed to grasp the implications of their actions.”

Beginning on Friday, March 22 at 6 a.m. and ending on Monday, March 25 at 6 a.m. the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office had the following enforcement activity, according to the post.

  • 200 plus traffic stops resulting in 131 verbal warnings, 51 written warnings, and 39 tickets

  • 25 arrests for underage possession of alcohol

  • 14 arrests for drugs

  • 6 arrests for other offenses

  • 1 arrest for theft

  • 1 arrest for public intoxication

The post further notes that GSPD and BCSO recovered three pistols from people who were legally prohibited from possessing firearms. Officials say one of the weapons recovered was from an individual on federal parole.

“We are a family-oriented community that welcomes everyone to come enjoy our beautiful beaches, but please remember to respect our laws and ordinances. We have a zero-tolerance, no warnings policy for Underage Possession of Alcohol, Drugs, DUI and weapons violations,” the post reads.
