Guilty murder conviction returned for man accused in 2021 Topeka shooting

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A man has been found guilty of murder in a 2021 deadly Topeka shooting case.

The Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office announced in a press release on Monday, March 11 that Jeremy Volle has been found guilty of three counts following a five-day jury trial in Shawnee County. These include:

  • Murder in the first degree

  • Murder in the second degree

  • Criminal possession of a firearm.

These charges are connected to the 2021 killing of Aaron Shepherd, 49, of Topeka. Volle and another man were arrested in connection to the homicide case.

Shawnee County DA spokeswoman Katie Garceran said the Topeka Police Department (TPD) was called around 4:45 a.m. on May 27 to the 1100 block of SW 17th Street in response to a shooting. At the scene, officers found Shepherd in the road next to his car suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he was later declared dead.

Police later found video footage showing a vehicle connected to the shooting. It was later revealed that Volle was a passenger in that vehicle, leading police to arrest him.
