It’s best you tip them early or before Christmas Day. A list of the people who help you and who you want to tip would ensure you don’t forget anyone. Keep your budget in mind when making decisions on how much to tip whom. At the end of the day, holiday tipping is just your way of thanking the person for his/her help.
For your live-in nanny or au-pair, a personal gift would work better than a tip but if you’re set on tipping your nanny, a week’s pay should be a good amount, according to Money magazine. You can tip your babysitter an evening’s pay and maybe add a small gift from your children. Tipping the staff at the day care about $25 to $70 per person should cover it. You can also ask your children to give a small gift to the people who take care of him/her.
Housekeepers and cleaners are reportedly rewarded with the most tips during the Christmas season. While you can give them a personal gift, a week’s pay would also be a great way of saying thanks.
You can tip your doorman anywhere from $25 to $100 depending on how well you know him and how helpful he has been over the past year. You can tip your building’s superintendent a similar amount or even give him/her a small amount.
You can give a cash gift of about $10 to $20 dollars for your newspaper delivery person and garbage collector. You can also tip your hair stylists, nail technicians, personal trainers and massage therapists the cost of one appointment.
