Guess Who Was the Worst S.N.L. Guest, According to Bill Hader

The cast of Saturday Night Live doubtless have tons of stories about hosts, musical guests, and even their fellow cast members that they haven’t told the world yet, but none of them is averse to talking about some of the “worsts.” When a Watch What Happens Live caller asked Bill Hader and Jay Pharoah who their worst S.N.L. host or guest was during their tenure on the show, neither of them could resist telling the truth.

“I mean, we both know, dog,” Pharoah said, and Hader nodded. “It was Bieber.” The Canadian pop star was apparently not on his best behavior during his appearance on the show, though Hader tried his best to be diplomatic. “He just was in a bad place. Maybe he’s in a better place, but then, it was rough… He seemed exhausted or he was at the end of a rope.” He mentioned that, normally, guests are excited to be there and on their best behavior—which, of course, makes the bad ones really stand out. Bieber appeared on a 2013 episode of S.N.L. and performed in nearly every sketch and sang two of his songs acoustically.

Pharoah also added that he saw Kanye West yank somebody into place onstage once, which Pharoah thought was hilarious. Comedy, man, it’s a stressful business. At least we have Kate McKinnon’s Bieber to tell us what kind of luxury underwear to buy.
