TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — An immigrant from Guatemala was arrested over the weekend for kidnapping a minor under the age of 13 and sexual assault, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) said Monday.

PBSO said Marvin Perez Lopez, who is in the country illegally, was arrested on May 4.

Perez Lopez reportedly left Guatemala in early January, crossed through Mexico, and turned himself in to Border Patrol.

PBSO said Perez Lopez was given a court date set for some time in 2027 and was released, at which point he made his way to Florida by the end of January.

Perez Lopez is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail without bond.
