Guatemala gov't: McAfee to leave for US

Guatemalan government official: McAfee departure to US imminent

GUATEMALA CITY (AP) -- A Guatemala Interior Ministry official says John McAfee is leaving for the U.S. on Wednesday.

The official says the software company founder has received written notice of his release from detention and that he has 10 days to put his immigration status in Guatemala in order.

The official was not authorized to speak on the record about the case, but he said that McAfee is already scheduled to leave on a flight Wednesday afternoon.

An Associated Press reporter spotted McAfee through the window of the detention center on Wednesday. He was dressed in a black suit without a tie and appeared relaxed.

McAfee was detained last week for immigration violations after he sneaked into Guatemala from neighboring Belize, where authorities sought to question him about the murder of his neighbor.
