The new trailer offers the first official look at the evil villain Ronan, played by Lee Pace ("The Hobbit"), and the superhero Yondu, played by Michael Rooker ("The Walking Dead").
The buzz surrounding "Guardians of the Galaxy" continues to grow, in no small part due to a series of exciting trailers. Rock music, explosions, spaceships and colorful aliens: all of the elements from the first videos are back in this new, longer trailer.
Ronan the Accuser, the main antagonist in Marvel's latest feature, makes his debut in the new trailer. Lee Pace, who was seen in "The Hobbit" as the Elven King Thranduil, plays this villain seeking to destroy the Guardians of the Galaxy and their world.
Among the superheroes facing him is Yondu Udonta, a space pirate and founding member of the Guardians. The character's role in the new movie was written specifically for Michael Rooker, who has worked with director James Gunn twice in the past ("Horribilis" in 2006 and "Super" in 2010).
This adaptation of the Marvel comic series is clearly poised to become one of the top blockbusters of the summer. Chris Pratt ("Parks and Recreation") stars as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, an adventurer who is pursued by bounty hunters after stealing a mysterious globe coveted by Ronan. The character must join forces with four aliens, each from a different planet, to prevent Ronan from getting his hands on the globe and unlocking its true power, which could threaten the entire galaxy.
Directed by James Gunn, the film also features Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin.
"Guardians of the Galaxy" is due in US theaters on August 1.
