Ground broken on Otsego student health center

OTSEGO, Mich. (WOOD) — Otsego Public Schools on Tuesday broke ground on a new student health center.

The first of its kind in Allegan County, the clinic at Washington Street Elementary will offer medical and mental health services, including checkups, immunizations and treatment for illnesses.

“Seventy percent of our families in this county are seeking pediatric services outside of the county, so we feel this is extremely important. And it’s a barrier sometimes for our families, obviously, to get their children seen during the day,” Superintendent Jeffery Haase said. “And so this will provide an opportunity for them.”

Crews are remodeling what used to be the girls locker room area in the old pool facility.

The health center will bill insurance, but no students will be turned away because of insurance status. The center, which is the result of a partnership with InterCare, is expected to open in the fall.
