Grimes says boyfriend Elon Musk never stopped workers from unionizing

Since they stepped out together at the Met Gala, musician Grimes and Tesla CEO Elon Musk's relationship hasn't had the warmest of receptions.

Quite a bit of the criticism comes from longtime fans of Grimes, a.k.a. Claire Boucher, known for being outspoken about her progressive politics

It's something fans have pointed out as seemingly at odds with her boyfriend's company, Tesla, which recently sat under the spotlight due to allegations of firing workers who attempted to unionize.

In a now-deleted tweet, because the discussion was "too nuanced" for Twitter, Boucher defended Musk.

"He has never prevented them from unionizing," she wrote. "It's quite literally fake news. Trust me, I've investigated this heavily and even visited factories etc."

Musk has also denied the claims on Twitter, and Boucher said she would revisit the discussion in an "ask me anything" when she releases new music.

Boucher also defended her relationship with Musk, with one tweeter @cocteau_twinks asking why she calls herself an "anti-imperialist while dating one of the biggest and most prominent capitalists out there."

"Humans with differing views on economics often hang out," she wrote, after talking about Musk's vision for what is essentially a subway system, and his views on universal basic income, which he backs.

To her credit, at least Boucher is responding to her fans' consternations about her relationship. Not that she thinks it should matter (and look, she's right).
