Greg Rutherford has given an update as he continues to heal from an injury that forced him to pull out of ITV’s Dancing On Ice.

Last month the Olympian, 37, had been due to battle it out against Ryan Thomas, Adele Roberts and Miles Nazaire for the trophy, when disaster struck on the morning of the live final.

Rutherford initially chose not to disclose the nature of his affliction, but he then later revealed he “effectively gave myself a C-section” after he tore his abs when he tried to skate through the legs of professional ice skater Colin Grafton.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Rutherford uploaded photos showing his scar after undergoing complex abdominal surgery, as well the “insane swelling” he experienced.

He captioned the post: “A little stomach update... I'm almost 4 weeks post op now and feeling so much better.

“I can move around with almost no feeling of pain and the wound has now closed and healed. Pic 2 shows the insane swelling I initially had.

“I can't tense my abs properly still, but that's coming. I also managed to put a ton of weight on since the op, so as soon as I'm ready I'll be training to get myself trim again… maybe even back on skates.”

A number of his 197,000 followers rushed to offer their well wishes and support in the comments section.

“Wow, must have been very scary for you and all involved, really pleased you're doing do well,” wrote one person.

“Ouch. Hang in there,” penned another, adding: “Your body is remarkable. No doubt you’ll be back to full fitness soon.”

“Get well soon mate,” penned a third.

It comes three weeks after he shared a post ahead of going under the knife.

Alongside pictures showing him in a hospital bed, he wrote: “Today is surgery day. Loads of people have been asking "what happened?"

“I've been a bit busy and obviously just recovering from the initial injury before I had the surgery that I hadn't got round to talking about it.

“Long story short, I leapt through the legs of Colin and managed to tear all of my abs as well as herniate. So I effectively gave myself a C-section.

“So yes, it was horribly painful. It needs to be operated on today and then I'll be properly on the mend. It was very painful, pretty horrible.”
