Green Eggs and Glam at the 2018 Green Tie Ball

Long running charity event supports greening, beautifying and cleaning public spaces.

The 27th Annual Green Tie Ball will be held on Friday, Sept. 14 at the Geraghty. The charity gala, presented by Wintrust Bank is one of Chicago’s longest-running events of its kind. This year’s ball is co-chaired by Candace Jordan and Nina Mariano and the special guest MC is Redfoo from the pop group LMFAO.

This year’s theme, Green Eggs & Glam, will give the night a touch of whimsy and will offer guests a fun sartorial cue to amp up their black-tie attire. What originally began as a street party, is now one of the most well-known and exclusive charity fundraising events in Chicago.

“Our Green Eggs & Glam theme was an inspired choice and matches our co-chairs, Candace and Nina, perfectly. I’m excited to see how our guests interpret the theme and what whimsical and over the top black-tie attire makes an appearance during the event,” said Grant DePorter, chairman of Chicago Gateway Green.

Green Tie Ball is hosted by the nonprofit organization Chicago Gateway Green, which is dedicated to greening and beautifying Chicago’s expressways, gateways and communities. Founded in 1986 by Donald J. DePorter, Gateway Green has planted more than 4,000 trees, 80,000 shrubs and 130,000 perennials along with the removal of over 1.35 million pounds of litter.

"I couldn't be more thrilled to be a co-chair for this event, one of the city's biggest and best,” said Jordan. “It attracts such a diverse and fabulous crowd and always has such exciting elements. I'm mad about our theme ‘Green Eggs & Glam,’ and can't wait to see Redfoo ramp up the party to benefit Chicago Gateway Green, always in the forefront of keeping our city clean and beautiful."

Each year, the event is marked by Chicago’s top restaurants, eclectic entertainment and a unique venue to celebrate the green spaces of the city. This year is no different, with guests sampling gourmet bites from celebrated Chicago favorites including Katana, Sunda, Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse and more. Premium open bars will serve top shelf signature cocktails featuring brands such as Effen Vodka, Cruzan Rum, Jim Beam and Hornitos Plata Tequila. Guests will dance the night away while enjoying sets from notable Chicago DJ’s including, DJ Rock City. Live entertainment includes a set from popular cover band Dr. Bombay, which includes Chicago Gateway Green Vice Chairman, Lee Golub as drummer.

"The Green Tie Ball has always been the perfect blend of Chicagoans. I look forward to it every year,” said Mariano. “It sums up the passionate, dedicated, loyal city we live in. I’m beyond thrilled to co-chair this year’s festivities with Candace and add my personal fun-loving touch to the mix.”

Redfoo, who will headline the event, has become a household name as an American rapper, dancer, record producer, DJ, singer and songwriter. He’s best known for being part of the musical duo LMFAO, with the hit song "Party Rock Anthem".
