Green Bay teenager pleads no contest to overdose death & drug charges

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – A 17-year-old Green Bay girl who is charged with homicide following an overdose death pleaded no contest and was found guilty on multiple felonies Friday.

Court records show that Maylia Sotelo appeared in the Brown County Courthouse with an attorney for her plea hearing and pleaded no contest to charges in two separate cases.

Sotelo pleaded no contest to the following charges:

  • 1st Reckless Homicide/Deliver Drugs

    • PTAC, as a Party to a Crime

  • Manufacture/Deliver Fentanyl (<=10g)

    • PTAC, as a Party to a Crime

  • Posses w/Intent-Fentanyl (>50g)

Additionally, Sotelo had two other drug charges dismissed, which will be read in at the sentencing hearing scheduled for July 9 at 2:30 p.m.

The charges against Sotelo are from drug sales on November 29 and December 6, 2022, shortly before and after she delivered a fatal dose to the 18-year-old from De Pere. Sotelo was eventually arrested on December 6, 2022.

According to the criminal complaint obtained by Local 5 News, authorities in Brown County had used a confidential informant to purchase drugs from Sotelo. Further evidence from Sotelo’s phone shows plenty of messages arranging deals within Brown County.

The complaint added Sotelo was found to be in possession of 775 Fentanyl pills on December 10, 60% of which had lethal doses of fentanyl. While talking with authorities, Sotelo said she started selling ‘perks’ in November 2022 and had been selling weed for a ‘long time’.
