Mar. 6—JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — A tale that explores the themes of identity, individuality and creativity will be presented on an area high school stage.

Greater Johnstown High School will present "Seussical the Musical" at 7 p.m. April 11, 12 and 13, and at 2 p.m. April 14 at Cochran Auditorium, 222 Central Ave., Johnstown.

In the musical caper, the Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant with his discovery of the Whos on a speck of dust.

While attempting to keep his promise to the Whos to protect their speck, Horton is faced with an additional challenge — the care of Mayzie La Bird's abandoned egg.

Although Horton faces mockery, danger and a trial, the ever faithful Gertrude McFuzz stays by his side.

Meanwhile on Who, Jojo, the mayor's son, is sent to military school for thinking too many "thinks."

The story tests one's own morals, loyalty, friendship and community, and offers enjoyment for the whole family.

Kalynn Kerekes, director of the production, said the show is pure fun.

"This production takes most of Dr. Seuss's best-loved stories and meshes them into a wild and imaginative experience," she said. "The fun characters and catchy songs will have the whole family smiling."

Kerekes said the cast of nearly 30 students in grades 7 through 12 have been working on the production since January.

"My favorite part about this musical is having the cast get excited with their own 'thinks' and creative suggestions," she said.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
