The Great Twinkie Drought Ends on July 15
One of the most drawn out snack nightmares will soon be over. Hostess announced today that Twinkies, CupCakes and Donettes will all be returning to store shelves on July 15. The Associated Press' Christine Choi reports Hostess' new owners are finally putting Twinkies back on shelves in the middle of July after a near eight month absence. Recognizing that the world has been waiting with bated breath for the return of these delicious snacks, they're labeling it "The Sweetest Comeback In The History Of Ever."

Hostess went bankrupt back in November and laid off 18,500 workers in the process. There were some last ditch efforts to save the Twinkies bakery, but they failed. After months of liquidation and a potential Walmart sale, Hostess finally went to Apollo Global Management for $410 million back in March. They tapped "veteran food exec" Dean Metropoulos to run the new, slimmed down operation. Some of the laid off workers have been re-hired under the new ownership, though there's no longer a union.

The recipe and price for a box of ten Twinkies will be the exact same. For the most part you'll hardly notice the little cakes ever left your life. The one thing that will change is availability. Because of the company's new structure, Hostess will deliver Twinkies to even more stores than ever before. You'll be able to get Twinkies in more places, more often than any point in history.
