Great Suffolk Cleanup collects over 1,200 bags of trash

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Great Suffolk Cleanup brought the community together on March 22-23.

The two-day initiative had participants collecting over 1,200 bags of trash, and removing over 300 tires.

City employees as well as volunteers helped with the effort.

Local businesses and organizations such as Birdsong Peanuts, QVC, the Suffolk Animal Hospital, Sentara, Naval Information Forces, as well as local schools, churches and civic leagues actively supported the initiative, a release states.

“This is the third successful Great Suffolk Cleanup, and despite the rain on Saturday we still had a great turnout and removed an impressive amount of trash littering our City,” Suffolk City Manager Al Moore said, in a release. “I am proud of the City employees who took part and grateful to all the other organizations and individuals who contributed.”
