New grant program will help nonprofits expand

Nov. 13—HIGH POINT — The Earl and Kathryn Congdon Family Foundation announced a new annual grant program Monday that is intended to help charities that serve the Greater High Point area expand.

The foundation intends every year to award 10 new grants for $30,000 each, and each grant will be for renewable for up to three years, said Megan Oglesby, executive director of the foundation.

"We regularly hear that what our nonprofits need most is the funding to do their missions bigger, better and more efficiently," she said. "These grants will support nonprofits as they add staff, renovate or expand facilities, upgrade technology, enhance fundraising or marketing efforts, invest in their leadership, conduct research, or any number of other capacity-building activities."

Grant requests for the Capacity Building Grants Program this year will be restricted to organizations that aim to increase access to and the quality of education, which is one of the foundation's three focus areas.

In 2025 and 2026, the grant cycle will focus on the foundation's other two focus areas: meeting critical community needs, and economic development for revitalization and stabilization.

Nonprofits have two opportunities to learn more to help them prepare their applications. First, foundation staff are available to meet with nonprofit representatives. Second, the Guilford Nonprofit Consortium, in partnership with the High Point Public Library, will host a grant-writing workshop on Dec. 5 and a follow-up peer review session on Jan. 10 to help nonprofits complete grant applications for several grant opportunities in early 2024. To sign up for the grant-writing sessions, visit www.GuilfordNonprofits.org.

Throughout the month of January, the foundation will accept grant applications.
