Grant County man awaiting federal sentencing on firearms charge

May 9—ELKINS, W.Va. — A Grant County resident recently pleaded guilty in federal court to the unlawful possession of a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District.

Wesley Shane Haggerty, 35, of Cabins, is facing up to 15 years in prison. A judge will determine the sentence after considering guidelines and other statutory factors.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Pendleton County sheriff's deputies were called to a home for a report of a man waiving a gun. When officers arrived, Haggerty fled on foot with a pistol and was arrested after a short chase.

Haggerty is reportedly prohibited from having firearms because of seven prior felony convictions and two misdemeanor domestic battery convictions.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Pendleton County Sheriff's Office investigated.
