Grand Forks Fire Department responds to apartment building fire

May 24—GRAND FORKS — The Grand Forks Fire Department responded to an apartment fire on Thursday, May 23.

The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. at 309 North Fifth St. According to a report from the GFFD, when crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from an apartment building. The fire was quickly extinguished.

The report said there was significant fire and smoke damage to one unit and that four residents were displaced.

The cause is under investigation.

The department responded with five engines, one truck and a command vehicle, along with 20 personnel. Altru Ambulance and Grand Forks Police Department staff assisted.
