Graduation season begins this weekend in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY — Graduation season begins this weekend in Monroe County. Monroe County Middle College and St. Mary Catholic Central and Dundee high schools will hold commencement ceremonies this weekend.

• Monroe County Middle College will hold its graduation ceremony May 17.

Graduating will be 59 students. Student speakers are Madison DuVall, Samantha Francis, Reese Johnson, Ashley Ray and Mara Vitale.

Diplomas will be conferred by Dale DeSloover, board of education president for Monroe County Intermediate School District; Stephen J. McNew, superintendent of MCISD; and Robert Krueger, MCMC principal.

• St. Mary Catholic Central High School will hold its Baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises at 3 p.m. May 19 at the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of May Motherhouse Chapel.  A reception will immediately follow the ceremony at SMCC’s Brother Gerontius Memorial Gymnasium.

Graduating are 91 students.

The Rev. David Burgard, Monroe Catholic Central Class of 1983 and pastor of Sts. Mary and John Catholic Churches, will preside at the Baccalaureate Mass. Deacon Mike Stewart will offer the homily.

Sara McCormick, senior class moderator, will serve as master of ceremony at commencement. Speakers will be Sierra Goins, valedictorian, and Maureen Smith, saluatorian.

Music will be offered by Christopher Knudsen, SMCC choir and musical director, and student choir members.

Diplomas will be conferred by Sean Jorgensen, SMCC president; Joe Carroll, SMCC principal; Steve Goda, SMCC school board chair; and Rev. Mike Woroniewicz, Monroe Vicariate vicar and SMCC pastor delegate.

• Dundee High School will hold its graduation ceremony at 2 p.m. May 19.

Graduating are 117 students. Speakers will be teacher Jay Haselschwerdt and senior scholars. Music will be offered by the high school band and choir.

School board members will confer diplomas.
