GPD investigating fatal shooting Sunday at east Gainesville apartment complex

The Gainesville Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon at an east Gainesville apartment complex.

GPD Public Information Officer Brandon Hatzel told The Sun on Monday afternoon that officers responded at about 1 p.m. Sunday to Harper's Pointe apartments, 2320 E. University Ave., where the found a male victim with a wound to his abdomen. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

Hatzel said officers spoke with a person of interest at the scene who was later released. Information has been forwarded to the State Attorney's Office for a decision on possible charges.
