Gov't announces recall of Salsa bicycle forks
Consumer safety agency announces recall of 1,700 bicycle forks because of bending risk
NEW YORK (AP) -- The Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday that Salsa Cycles is recalling bicycle forks that could bend, which could cause riders to fall.
The agency said the recall affects about 1,700 parts that were sold individually or as part of Salsa Vaya and Salsa La Cruz bicycles. The forks were sold in stores and on websites between February 2011 and June 2012. The commission said Salsa Cycles has received eight reports of forks that bent above the disc brake mount, but no injuries have been reported.
The Vaya forks are orange or dark gray and the La Cruz forks are black. "Salsa" is printed on the bicycle frame and "CWI" is stamped on the steerer tube. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said consumers should stop using bikes equipped with those forks and should contact a Salsa Cycles for a free inspection, replacement part, or a full refund.
The bicycle forks were sold for about $100 each, and the bicycles cost $1,300 to $1,600 each.
Salsa Cycles is based in Bloomington, Minn. It is a unit of Quality Bicycle Products Inc.
