LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Governor Tony Evers making a visit to La Crosse today (5/22/24) to celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week. Evers visited the Sweet Shop, known best for its homemade ice cream and candy. This small business has been owned and operated out of its original location for over a hundred years.

In 2022, the Wisconsin tourism industry generated more than $23 billion in economic impact, surpassing their original goal set in 2019 of $22.2 billion. Since 2020, a quarter of Governor Evers’s directed investments have been put into the travel industry alone. Evers explains, “We are spending money here. Tourism is important for our state. Over 100,000 people work in tourism but (in) the last year our economy was helped by $23.7 million in tourism money and it keeps getting bigger every year.”

Evers believes these investments will have a long-term impact on the economy through creating jobs and expanding Wisconsin Tourism.
