Governor: 'Divergent' to film in Illinois

Governor: 'Divergent' filming to begin in Illinois in April, bringing 1,000 jobs

CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn says filming will begin in Illinois in April on "Divergent" — the movie version of a novel by Chicagoan Veronica Roth.

In a statement Monday, Quinn says the movie production is expected to bring 1,000 jobs and more than $30 million in spending to Illinois.

Quinn says one of the reasons Illinois is an ideal place for filmmakers is that Chicago boasts one of the country's largest soundstages. Cinespace opened in May 2011 and was built with $5 million from the Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program, as well as tens of millions of dollars in private investment. The studio currently hosts the TV series "Chicago Fire."

"Divergent" is scheduled for release in March 2014.
