Governor announces second successful BPD & CHP operation

Trumpeting efforts to reduce criminal activity in Bakersfield, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office on Thursday proclaimed the success of the latest operation conducted jointly by the California Highway Patrol and the Bakersfield Police Department.

On May 1, the two agencies together issued 59 citations, impounded 14 vehicles and recovered seven stolen vehicles, according to the governor’s office. In addition, three people were arrested for felonies and three people were arrested for misdemeanors.

The operation was part of Newsom’s efforts to improve public safety in Kern County, which has a higher property and violent crime rates than the state average, according to the governor’s office.
