LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – On Monday, the Arkansas Office of Skills Development handed out checks totaling more than $20 million in grants.

The money will be used to increase the number of nursing professionals, apprenticeships and educators, who will hopefully stay here once they finish their education, to help fill the nursing shortage.

“Our nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system. They’re there in life’s most beautiful and most difficult moments. They’re there when you wake up, when you go to sleep and pretty much everything in between,” Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders stated.

Some of the colleges that were awarded the grant money include Arkansas State, Henderson State and Philander Smith University to name just a few.
