ATLANTA (WRBL) — Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has ordered the American and Georgia flags atop the state Capitol in Atlanta and flags in Muscogee County be flown at half-staff on Saturday in honor of Medal of Honor recipient Col. Ralph Puckett.

“Col. Ralph Puckett, Jr. was a true American hero and the last living person to receive the Medal of Honor for actions in the Korean War. In honor of his distinguished life and service, I have ordered flags at the State Capitol and in Muscogee County to half-staff on Saturday,” the governor posted via X, formerly known as Twitter, late Thursday.

Col. Puckett died April 8 at his north Columbus home. He was 97.

“His family thanks you for this honor,” Jeannie Puckett said. “We live in gratitude for his life.”

Saturday, a celebration of his life will be held at the National Infantry Museum parade field beginning at 11 a.m.

On April 29, Col. Puckett’s ashes will be lying in honor at the U.S. Capitol rotunda in Washington, D.C.
