Hassan's commission recommends New Hampshire expand Medicaid under federal law
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- A commission established by New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan to look into implementing a managed care network for existing Medicaid clients is recommending expanding Medicaid under the federal health care overhaul law to cover poor, uninsured adults.
Hassan, a Democrat, supports the expansion and included funding in her budget for it. The Democratically controlled House agreed with Hassan and put the money in its budget, but the Republican-controlled Senate proposes establishing a commission to study the idea. The Senate votes on its budget Thursday.
The Governor's Commission on Medicaid Care Management said the three companies the state hired to implement a managed care network for the existing Medicaid population need to include the estimated 58,000 uninsured adults eligible under the expansion to make the managed care networks cost-effective.
