Gotion submits plant plans to county planning commission

GREEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Gotion Inc. said it has submitted the site plan application to the county planning commission for an electric vehicle battery plant in Mecosta County’s Green Township.

Gotion, a subsidiary of China-based Gotion High-Tech Co., plans to build a more than $2 billion electric vehicle plant in Green Township.

Some have voiced concerns about the China-based company’s ties to the China Communist Party and the impact the proposed plant would have on endangered species.

In a news release, Gotion noted that the plan includes more than 60 acres for wildlife and water quality preservation.

“A tremendous amount of thought and planning went into designing our facility and property, and we greatly appreciate the input from Mecosta County officials as we move forward with the local review and permitting process,” Chuck Thelen, vice president of Gotion Inc. – North American Manufacturing, said in a news release. “Along with gaining valuable insight from the county, we continue to intently listen to local residents as well. Our ultimate goal is to be great neighbors for people in the region while creating the best working environment for our employees.”

The company said it will apply for state and federal permits in the coming weeks.
