GOSHEN BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS: Bids for vehicles, new fire station unsealed

Apr. 25—GOSHEN — The Goshen Board of Public Works and Safety unsealed bids for both two new vehicles and a possible future southside Goshen Fire Department station at its Thursday meeting.

The two vehicles would be for the Water and Sewer Department — specifically, two Ford 550 chassis/cab units. The first bid, from Eby Ford, is for $121,670, and the second from Jordan Ford for $112, 986, both a total price for both units.

For the proposed fire station, the bids came from Ancon Construction/BKB group, Core/BKB Group, Envoy and R Yoder and TX Consulting.

All of the bids for both departments were referred to the city's legal department for further review.

The board voted to approve an interlocal agreement with Elkhart County for the improvement of the Pumpkinvine Trail, from Ind. 4 north to C.R. 28.

"This is the last section of unpaved trail," Mayor Gina Leichty said about this phase of the project.

Another interlocal agreement with the county was passed for the establishment of a Marion Branch Quiet Zone. Specifically, this would be for upgraded safety features at the current railroad crossing at C.R. 42 and and at any possible future one at C.R. 40, where currently one does not exist.

Also, the board approved the partial closure of Seventh Street for an Aug. 17 block party, as well as discounted-cost dump trailers for a June clean up event, for the Historic Southside Neighborhood Association.

"It's basically just for our neighborhood," said Megan Hessl, who spoke to the board on behalf of the association.
