GOP Groups Plan $1 Billion Election Effort
Led by the Koch brothers, Karl Rove and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a group of conservative organizations plan to spend almost $1 billion this election season to win the White House and Congress, Politico reported.
The effort comes in addition to the $800 million Mitt Romney's campaign and the Republican National Committee have said they plan to raise.
Charles and David Koch, the billionaire industrialists, plan to spend $395 million, about twice what had been previously expected, Politico reported. American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS, the organizations founded by political strategist Karl Rove, are expected to spend about $300 million. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has a goal of $100 million in spending, as does the pro-Romney super PAC, Restore our Future .
The spending is expected to far surpass the amounts laid out during the 2008 presidential race.
