The Republican opponent of Massachusetts congressman Barney Frank says the Democrat's private jet ride to the U.S. Virgin Islands, courtesy of a hedge fund manager, shows that Frank is too cozy with the financial interests he oversees.
Frank is facing a stronger-than-expected re-election fight against his GOP challenger, Sean Bielat. The Republican is targeting Frank's role in dealing with the financial crisis.
As chairman of the Financial Services Committee, Frank guided through the House the Wall Street bailout and the far-reaching financial regulatory law.
Bielat says that while the trip may have been legal, it was wrong. Frank says he sought and received approval by the House ethics committee ahead of the trip last year.
